My name is Calliope Arkilic

(pronounced kuh-lye-oh-pea ark-lidge) I am an Oakland based journalist who writes about community, food and science. Before I was a reporter, I worked in an entomology (insect) lab looking at tiny bug parts under a microscope. Currently, I am a second year masters student at the UC Berkeley School of Journalism where I am learning how to report and write better! This summer, I was a food reporting intern with East Bay Nosh where I pitched, reported and wrote feature, breaking news and in-depth explainers about the East Bay food scene. I like taking photos, though I am still learning what all the buttons on my camera are for.
